Elektromobility at the Ruhr-University Bochum
Bus - train - car - e-car - bicycle - on foot: intermodal transport
Intermodal mobility and electromobility are two essential elements for the intended change in transport, towards ecologically sustainable mobility. However, these forms of mobility are currently usually associated with high planning effort, restrictions and uncertainties for users. Another disadvantage of e-vehicles for many users is their cost-effectiveness. The project interflexibEl uses a cloud-based data management system (CDMS) to interconnect and evaluate offers from various mobility providers (including public transport, car and bike sharing providers) as well as real-time data from carriers, the charging infrastructure and, if necessary, your own e-vehicle. For the user, intermodal mobility-planning is simplified by the CDMS calculating mobility solutions based on the appointments entered in the user's own calendar and individual preferences and requirements, displaying them via a smartphone app and controlling the charging process of the e-vehicle.
Many people are not quite certain if an electric car would fit into their everyday life. A new smartphone app might help with this issue
A new app helps drivers decide if switching from a petrol-driven car to an electric car is a viable solution for them – and which vehicle model would be best suited to their individual requirements. It was developed by engineers at Ruhr-Universität Bochum under the auspices of Prof Dr Constantinos Sourkounis. Using the smartphone app, drivers can record typical routes. Based on the gathered data, the program generates a list of vehicle models that would meet the driver’s requirements, for example cars with sufficient range. Information pertaining to cost saving can also be provided.
Also available as web application
People who do not own an Android smartphone or a car can access a simplified, gratuitous version of the service online. There, users can enter typical route data to generate information similar to those supplied by the app.
