WORKSHOP I WINDEGRATION on 05 May 2023 - A short report
On Friday, 05 May 2023, a workshop was organised within the framework of the project WINDegration - Control and Management of Wind Farms for Integration in Grids of Low Inertia, Taking into Account the Interactions of the Individual Plants with Each Other. The aim of the workshop was to receive and discuss new impulses on the topic of balancing the natural fluctuations in renewable power generation through guests from politics, industry and research, in order to be able to guarantee the stability of the electricity grid in the future.
The event took place in the premises of the Smart Windpark Laboratory (SWiPLab) research infrastructure on Prinz-Regent-Straße in Bochum, which only opened last October. After the welcome and an introduction to the topic by the Institute Director, Prof. Constantinos Sourkounis, and the introduction to the WINDegration project by the research assistant Benedikt Spichartz, a laboratory demonstration took place to give the participants a visual taste of the new research infrastructure. After the lunch break, two keynote presentations were given. First, Philip Krajinski (research associate EneSys) presented results from the SmartWind project. Then Dr. Tobias Hennig from Amprion GmbH presented the view of the transmission grid operators regarding the requirements for future power converters and converter systems. After a short break, the participants were able to follow two short presentations by Karl-Friedrich Stapelfeldt from BECKHOFF Automation GmbH & Co on the topic of EtherCAT in power converter systems and by Rainer Klosse from EESYST Energie Elektrische Systemtechnik GmbH, who deals with FRT measurements at wind farms.
